Star Struck Progress

I hadn't had the opportunity to work on my "Star Struck" quilt for a long time, so recently went downstairs, re-counted to see how many blocks I had (in parts), and figured out how many more I needed. I needed 'parts' for seven more blocks to make a crib sized quilt. I sewed the strips together for those, cut some corner squares and that's as far as I got.  So going to get off here and see what I can do for an hour or so!

Hope to have enough block 'parts' to take to sew on 'Hugs' day, as it will be a quilt to go to Child Protection Service.

New Interest to Go with Old One!

I have finally given in to something I've wanted to do for years--learn to tat!  I have joined an online group "Here Be Tatters", taken a free online class, found a REALLY good youtube video that show how to make the 'double stitch', and I can do that darned stitch (sometimes)!  I've acquired two balls of Lizbeth size 20 thread, 4 shuttles--2 Clover with posts, and 2 with bobbins--a Pony "aero" type shuttle and the "Aero" shuttle made in Germany.  Ordered most of it from "Handy Hands" who sent along a catalog and a booklet of lace patterns free with my order, but I can tell you that it will be a loooong time before I will make lace!

I wanted some tatted lace to put on my Crazy Quilt blocks.  Haven't been able to do much machine sewing lately on other quilts (for various reasons), so it is nice to have some handwork upstairs handy.  Also, decided that I will work on what I want to work on because I want to work on it and not because the huge fabric stash is pressuring me!  I will put some photos of my CQ blocks on here before long--looking at those from CQI, I have a long way to go on those to get them where I want them! lol!

As for the stash, have a bolt ready to ship out for postage--first lady who answered the email on Stashbusters--hope to get more out on Stashbuster next week.  Have a couple bolts or partial bolts of brown--one I used a lot of in my Shakespeare In The Park quilt.  There are other bolts, too, of course that will have to go.  I want to fit remaining bolts in the wooden case until I decide if I really want them--but of course, it will be nice to keep some for backing, too.

My official count so far is:  just under 30 yards shipped out, with 14 spools of YLI hq thread all to good homes!

Kaleidoscope Quilt

Michelle, of Stashbuster, showed a kaleidoscope quilt she made out of sheets and cutting the pieces with an Accuquilt Go.  I went downstairs last evening and found two kaleidoscope rulers--I actually think I have another someplace!  Of course, I don't have the 'Go', but I do have the ruler(s) and rotary cutter, and have thought of several pieces of fabric I can use to make a couple of these--she sure made it sound simple!  Simple is what I need! lol!  So, after Star Struck, kaleidoscope!

Dear Granddaughter

This is my granddaughter who just
turned 1!  I made the quilt in the
background before she was on
her way--and didn't know who I
was making it for, but she sure
loves it!

Star Struck!

Several members of 'Stashbuster' became interested in making patchwork houses, and I thought I might play along.  One of the patterns being used is from Bonnie Hunter's "Quiltville" site.  I cut my strips for the houses from the box of scraps we found in the garage recently--but I cut mine 2 1/2" and they should have been only 2"!  So looked for another pattern, and found Bonnie's 'Star Struck' pattern.  Just love it!  So here are some strips and then below are some units I have pieced.  Although It is very, very scrappy, almost too much so for my tastes, I find that when I lay them out as they should go into stars, they aren't too bad! lol!  I almost have enough units pieced to begin sewing into blocks, and it should be interesting!  This one will go to "Hugs", my Guild's charity that donates quilts to foster-care children.

January Spending

This is my 'haul' for January--over $50!  The solid red was $21,
